Spring is in the air, meaning allergy season is in full bloom. Many of our patients are now coming to us with their seasonal symptoms, and chiropractic can help. Stuffy noses, sneezing fits, and itchy, watery eyes are just some of the unwanted symptoms that come with this time of year. If you are suffering from allergies, follow our tips.

SPRING CLEANING

Whoever came up with the idea of spring cleaning was actually on to something! Keeping a clean house, body, and environment may not eliminate all your allergy symptoms, but it can certainly help reduce them. As you go about your day, pollen will cling to your clothes, body, and hair and as you walk in the door after a long day, those allergens are coming in with you. Make sure you wash your hands and face and also wipe objects down and vacuum and sweep regularly. This will keep dust away and prevent your allergies from flaring up.

OTC TREATMENTS

If you haven’t been taking an over-the-counter allergy pill, it might be time to start. OTC treatments like allergy pills and neti pots can help relieve your symptoms and are ideal for seasonal allergy sufferers. If experience more serious allergies, speak with your primary care physician to find the best treatment plan for you.

CHIROPRACTIC CARE

If you aren’t already getting regular chiropractic care, you probably think of chiropractors as those that treat neck and back pain - but we can do so much more! Most people aren’t aware that chiropractic adjustments can help with allergy relief. As chiropractors, we do spinal adjustments and manipulations to ensure the spine is in proper alignment and to remove any subuxations (aka interferences). When your spine is properly aligned, your central nervous system can function as it should and that includes your immune system. Allergies are really a simple overreaction of the immune system, so it is in your best interest to keep it as healthy as possible. Many of our patients report finding relief from their symptoms in as little as one chiropractic adjustment.
